Kent's House of Books is a charming, upscale bookshop in a historic building located in beautiful Kent. The shop has a full selection of books on all subjects. Service is our specialty, so feel free to ask for help. The House of Books also has gifts, cards, stationery, music, art & office supplies, in addition to fax, copy and UPS services. We're on the Appalachian Trail & have maps, trail guides & local information.
House of Books began as a small family business in a home on Route 7 in the fall of 1976. As the business grew, owners Carol and John Hoffman purchased 10 N. Main St. in the heart of Kent, which seemed fitting, as it was in this building in 1915 where a committee of book lovers met—then called “Bulls Hall”—in the hopes of planning the beginnings of a free Library in Kent.
The building also served as the town’s post office. Carol Hoffman sold House of Books to Jim and Gini Blackketter in 1991. Robin Dill-Herde, a former bookseller at House of Books for 9 years under the Blackketter’s ownership, purchased the business from them in May of 2013, and so, House of Books remains Kent’s Literary Landmark.
